Course Objectives

The Master’s Degree in Applied Informatics ensures a specialization of a professional nature, and purposes to develop skills needed in the fields of Computer Science, aimed at satisfying a central demand within the institutions. It also intends to provide/stimulate conditions for research, training, and information exchange between multidisciplinary teams.
The skills to be acquired in this study cycle allow to consolidate, develop, and deepen the knowledge and skills obtained in a previous 1st study cycle in the technological domain, and to requalify active professionals. Therefore, it intends to provide to all graduates in Computer Science, and similar areas, the opportunity to attend a master’s degree, namely the professionals who wish to carry out an update, within the scope of their lifelong training needs.
Additionally, this study cycle has the mission of contributing to the development of life skills, of personal and interpersonal nature, promoting in individuals the ability to face global challenges, acting locally.
The study cycle is organized in two academic years, structured according to the guiding principles of Bologna, for a total of 120 ECTS credits. The curricular part is constituted by 10 course units (60 ECTS) lectured in the first year, while the last year is entirely dedicated to carrying out a project work or an internship in a company. Students who successfully complete the curricular part will be receive a certificate regarding the Applied Informatics specialization course.

Access Conditions

The following candidates may apply to access the study cycle:
a) holders of a 1st study cycle degree, or a legally equivalent degree, from a national higher education institution in the area of Informatics Engineering or similar areas;
b) holders of a foreign academic degree in higher education, from an institution whose 1st study cycle degrees comply with the principles of the Bologna Process or a State which has adopted this Process, in the area of Informatics Engineering or similar areas;
c) holders of a foreign academic degree in higher education recognized by ESTGOH’s Scientific and Technical Council (CTC) as fulfilling the objectives of the 1st study cycle degree in the above-mentioned areas;
d) holders of an academic, scientific, or professional curriculum recognized by ESTGOH’s Scientific and Technical Council as attesting to the ability to accomplish this study cycle.

Learning Objectives

The Master’s degree in Applied Informatics aims to develop skills in Computer Science, promoting the construction and/or the deepening of knowledge in matters related to this area, in order to sustain its application in the most diverse professional contexts, and, at the same time, support the ability for the individual organization of the autonomous and continuous learning process.
The Master’s degree in Applied Informatics will allow:
a) To develop knowledge and understanding skills, acquiring and deepening content obtained during the level of a 1st study cycle of training and/or post-graduation;
b) Apply knowledge and problem-solving skills both in new and unfamiliar situations, and in broad and multidisciplinary contexts;
c) Develop skills that allow autonomous learning throughout life.

The curricular part of the study plan of the Master’s degree in Applied Informatics is predominantly constituted by experimental course units, particularly aimed at solving practical problems. For students not yet integrated into the labour market, this study cycle may provide an opportunity to undertake a professional internship in institutions, with whom the School already has collaboration protocols/partnerships.

Access to Superior Studies

The master’s degree allows access to the 3rd cycle of studies leading to the degree of Doctor.
