The teaching methodology is varied and seeks to promote an active and participatory learning environment.
Reading of fundamental texts is required and discussion of topics or exercises occurs regularly.
About half of the sessions will begin with a presentation by a teacher, followed by a discussion of topics related to the subject under examination where students are encouraged to intervene.
The other sessions will be more practical with problem solving tasks, presentation of results and discussion of implications for health systems management.
The seminars consist of group work with the presence of a teacher, which develops in-depth discussion of the topics in the syllabus.
Assessment of commitment, work and participation (20%), made through observation of student participation and the presentation and discussion of topics and exercises in sessions and 40% in group activities.
Individual evaluation (40%) is targeted with questions dealing with the topics taught.

Knowledge aquisition on the importance of addictive behaviors and their relationship with health, from a neurobiological and social perspective.
Understand the evolution and contextualization of health paradigms that sustain public policies (cure and disease prevention and health promotion).
Explore the differences and complementarities of both the pathogenic and salutogenic paradigms at the origin of health policies.
Critically analyze the relevance of the concepts that are at the root of health (e.g. sense of coherence) and theoretical trends of thought related to health promotion and its operationalization.
Analyze WHO role in the propagation of salutogenesis and its implications in the field of health promotion and health policy.
Explore the comparison and integration of theoretical models and measures of health with empirical research.
Describe research methodologies in the field of public health policies considering the their applicability to the current context of disease management in Portugal.
