Analytical Chemistry

Base Knowledge

There is no recommended background knowledge.

Teaching Methodologies

Lecture by the teacher of contents related to the theoretical aspects of this curricular unit, as well as interactive theoretical-practical classes that aim not only to transmit knowledge, but also to understand, interpret and apply them in concrete situations.

Learning Results

At the end of this course the student should be able to:

• Acquire the theoretical foundations of sample preparation, preparation and standardization of solutions and sample treatment for chemical analysis

• Analyze calibration curves and establish their application limits

• Determine the precision and accuracy of analytical results and critically interpret them.

Program

1. The Analytical Process. Sampling. Sample preparation. Principles of analytical measurement.
2. Statistical evaluation of analytical results. Accuracy and precision of analytical observations and measurements. sensitivity concept,
selectivity and specificity. Systematic and random errors. Uncertainty concept. Notion of population, sample, variable and data
statistical. Notion of outlier. Variance and standard deviation. Statistical quality control tests.
3. Calibration in Analytical Chemistry. General fundamentals of calibration. Regression and calibration. Linear calibration errors. Statistical tests and
calibration validation. Alternative procedures to calibration.
4. Presentation, interpretation and validation of analytical results. Presentation of analytical results. Interpretation of results
analytics. Presentation of results close to the limit of detection. Interlaboratory studies. Chemometric data interpretation
