Teaching Methodologies

Classes will be theoretical-practical. An expository methodology will be used to present the theoretical concepts that will be exemplified with concrete situations in reality. The exhibition will be made using “power point” presentations. Use of Microsoft Excel.

In order to achieve the objectives of the UC and confer the competences provided to students, the learning process is based on: case studies, accompanied by a set of instructions and computer tools that lead the student to analyze each case, draw conclusions and make decisions; in the execution of practical works of application of theoretical concepts; in the bibliographic research necessary to complement the information obtained in class.

Learning Results

Develop skills in the field of statistics, providing students an integrated view of descriptive statistics to be applied to situations in the agro-food context. Analyze and interpret the data obtained and present the results in a way to summarize the information and facilitate decision-making. Use the Excel spreadsheet for descriptive statistical study of a data set and for the study of the association between two variables. Develop personal skills in terms of structuring thinking logic and reasoning.

Program

1. Descriptive statistics to a dimension.

2. Organization of data in a frequency table and respective graphic representation. Using Microsoft Excel to obtain tables of frequencies.

3. Graphical representation of data. Using Microsoft Excel in building graphics.

4. Location measures, non-central tendency measures, measures of dispersion and measures of  asymmetry and flatness. Using Microsoft Excel in obtaining descriptive statistics.

5. Elementary probability theory.

6. One-dimensional discrete and continuous random variables. Distributions common theories: discrete and continuous.

7. One-way analysis of variance (ANOVA).

8. Simple linear regression model. Scatter diagram. Coefficient Pearson correlation and coefficient of determination. method of least squares. Regression ANOVA. Using Microsoft  Excel in construction of the regression line.

9. Contingency table. Using Microsoft Excel in the construction of a contingency table.
