Base Knowledge

The student must have knowledge of Psychology.

Teaching Methodologies

Expository lectures with audio-visual and interactive resources between student and teacher, with use of theoretical-practical lessons to reinforce the understanding of theoretical syllabus.

Students will be monitored throughout each semester with questions as a complement of education.

Two hours per week will be available, with pre-defined schedule with the student.

Teaching support of all the matter taught will be delivered to the student or bibliographical references recommended for each subject, at the beginning of the semester.

 

Learning Results

 – Sensitize students to the ethical issues, particularly those related to health;

 – Analyze the ethical implications related to the advancement of technology and medicine;

 – Contribute to a better understanding of ethical issues and their applicability in the professional field;

 – Know personal nature values and the underlying ethical principles allowing a reflection on their applicability in the profession and in society in general;

 – Identify new ethical paradigms and adopt a critical approach in decision making;

 – Understand and analyze specific concepts and apply them in the context of ethical problems.

 

Program

1 – BIOETHICS – GENERAL CONCEPTS – 2 hours

Definition of ethics, structure and origin of the concept;

Values / principles / standards;

Definition of bioethics, structure and origin of the concept;

Bridge between ethics and bioethics;

2 – ETHICS, BIOETHICS AND PRINCIPLES OF BIOMEDICAL ETHICS – 10 hours

Distinction between ethics and morality;

Distinction between ethics and law;

Distinction between ethics and religion;

The first initiatives of theorizing of bioethics: the principles;

Fundamental principles in bioethics (Beauchamp and Childress): beneficence, non-maleficence, autonomy and justice;

The ethical and legal doctrine of informed consent in safeguarding respect for self-determination of the person;

Structural elements of informed consent;

Variants of informed consent;

Autonomy and the right to privacy;

Responsibility of the health professional (professional competence, their functions and inter professional respect);

The professional secrecy / confidentiality of clinical data;

Rights and duties of patients;

3 – BIOETHICS AND PROFESSIONAL ETHICS – 4 hours

Codes of ethics and codes of practice;

Code of Ethics for Audiologists (reflection on the ethical principles involved);

Audiologist / patient relationship;

4 – ETHICS AT THE END OF LIFE – 4 hours

Death in society;

Palliative care;

Communication;

Grief;

The palliative care team;

The role of the family in palliative care;

Cancer pain;

5 – ETHICAL DILEMMAS ON SPECIFIC TOPICS PRESENTED AND DISCUSSED IN CLASS – 8 hours
