Cardiac Pacing and ICD

Base Knowledge

Anatomy of the Cardiovascular system;

Physiology of the cardiovascularsystem;

Pharmacology;

Biophysics applied to the cardiocirculatory system and the conduction system;

Biochemistry (muscle contraction, metabolism, energy);

Electrocardiography and Cardiac Ultrassonography

Teaching Methodologies

The teaching of the curricular unit is divided into TP and PL. The teaching methods applied to TP components are a) Expository method, in which the principles and concepts are approached as is in the proposed program, using audio visual means: b) the Interactive Method with privileged discussion on major themes introduced in class, and allow a practical integration of theoretical concepts.
In the PL component students are part of the multidisciplinary team in the Pacing Laboratory, under a senior supervision, developing in real context the instrumental skills arising from the process of theoretical training.

Learning Results

At the end of this curricular unit students should be able to:
-Know the equipment, materials, techniques and protocols of implantation of pacemakers, resynchronisers and ICDs.
-Monitor the patient and analyze the various parameters in the implantation of pacemakers, resynchronisers and ICDs.
-Do the follow-up of patients with Implantable devices, analyzing the parameters and making necessary schedules.
-Know the procedure, materials, protocols and interpretation of Tilt table test.
