Complementary Exams for Diagnosis in Physiotherapy

Base Knowledge

Not applicable.

Teaching Methodologies

Theorical lectures and theorethical-practical classes are designed to deliver information about complementary tests for physiotherapy diagnosis and develop the ability to understand their meaning to facilitate the diagnosis process in physiotherapy.

Learning Results

The subject aims to provide students with the ability to:

• Compare and contrast imaging modalities available for the investigation of neuromusculoskeletal problems.

• Justify their choice of imaging modality for clinical problems commonly encountered in neuromusculoskeletal physiotherapy clinical practice

• Critically appraise the radiology literature and apply evidencebased knowledge about radiology investigations into clinical practice.

• Analyse images to facilitate diagnosis of common musculoskeletal conditions, based on their imaging findings.

• Analyse ulstrasound MSK examintations.

• Analyse laboratorial tests to facilitate diagnosis/monitoring of common neuromusculoskeletal conditions, based on their findings.

• Better integrate radiology and laboratory findings into clinical practice.

Program

Medical imaging principles, image processing and risk perception and Radiation Protection principles. Medical imaging applied to Physiotherapy in order to study Nervous System, MSK and Chest based on radiography, ultrasound, Computed Tomography (CT) and Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) examinations.

Laboratory studies: Normal and pathological values for blood and urine tests. Laboratory examination of musculoskeletal function, renal, cardiac, hepatic, pulmonary and infectious diseases.
