Crisis Management and Communication

Teaching Methodologies

The theoretical classes are intended to expose and discuss the main programmatic content, encouraging discussion, questioning and participation of students. It is privileged the use of real case studies and videos to illustrate the themes.
The main topics are further explored through group work, essentially practical.
The teaching methods used are: expository, interrogative, demonstrative and active.

Learning Results

OA1. Identify the importance of crisis prevention, monitoring, crisis management and crisis communication.
OA2. Recognize the operating logics of the media field: organization and response.
OA3. Acquire capacity of response and strategic communication in different crisis context.
OA4. Develop online and offline communication strategies.
OA5. Identify post-crisis and future crisis assessment skills.

Program

CP1. Pre-crisis: Problem, incident, emergency and crisis; Risks, mitigation and awareness actions; Alert and monitoring systems; Culture of Prevention and Care; Crisis management and communication plan.
CP2. Crisis: Crisis Office; Leadership during the Crisis; Timing in crisis; Crisis Communication Strategies; Message construction; Online and offline responses; Interviews, press releases and press conferences in crisis; Monitoring and adaptation of strategies and tactics.
CP3. Post-crisis: Back to normality; Assessing crisis management and communication; Crisis Marketing; Drivers of change, weak signals and wild cards; Scenarios and crises of the future.
