Dissertation

Base Knowledge

The Dissertation component is pursued at the end of the master degree.

Teaching Methodologies

Tutorial-type contact hours. Methodologies based on active and collaborative learning,
to promote positive interdependence between students, foster individual responsibility and autonomous work,
improve communication, develop interpersonal skills, stimulate self-assessment and periodic evaluation of applied research.

The evaluation has an informal distributed component resulting from the meetings between the students and the academic supervisor,
an intermediate progress report whenever justified, and the public examination/defense of the Dissertation.
The defense consists of a public exam evaluated by a jury in accordance with the regulations for the study cycle.
The evaluation is defined by the jury considering at least the following components:
Quality of the technical-scientific content;
Quality of the document presented;
Quality of presentation and ability to argue;
Added value of work for the company (when involved), for school and for society.

– To develop research skills including in applied research;
– To develop local know-how that will serve as a basis for future dissertations, projects or internships;
– To develop the ability to document extensive engineering work according to scientific research methodologies;
– To contribute to the development of innovative technologies in the area of Electrical Engineering.

At the end of the Dissertation the student should demonstrate:
– To have an overall view of the state-of-the-art in the area of study;
– Ability to conduct research in a structured manner, leading to the presentation of scientific results and to compare them with other works in the area;
