Teaching Methodologies

The teaching methodologies will be diversified, including expository classes for the presentation of the taught concepts and study materials, their group discussion, the realization of practical work and challenges, as well as seminar classes with invited specialists who will give lectures related to the subjects’ course unit topics.

Learning Results

During the course, students should reflect on the steps to be taken from the generation of a business idea and its economic and financial evaluation to the creation of an innovative company, including aspects related to the nature and functioning of the organization to incorporate, the business model, intellectual property, presentation to investors (the “elevator pitch”) and, finally, the go to market plan.

 

Students should develop the following skills:

– Identify and develop innovation and business opportunities within the scope of city management.

– Understand the basic principles of the management of an organization, in particular, those related to the management of a startup.

– Understand and elaborate an innovative value proposition and the respective business model.

– Develop a short business plan, including economic and financial assessment.

– Collect, select, and interpret relevant information in the area of Entrepreneurship and Intellectual Property.

– Understand the procedures necessary to create a company.

– Developing autonomy and teamwork skills, in order to improve students’ insertion in an organizational context and/or to lead the process of creating a startup.

The future of cities: evolution and transformation. The incorporation of technology and the digitalization of the city.

Cities in the development of creative clusters.

Launch a startup: value proposition and business models. Ideation and Creativity.

The “value proposition canvas” and “business model canvas”.

Marketing Strategy: Market and competition analysis, Segmentation-Targeting-Positioning, Marketing-Mix.

The startup’s strategy: vision and mission; analysis of the environment, industry attractiveness, benchmarking, and SWOT analysis.

Types of Innovation. Innovation clusters and innovation trends.

Economic-Financial Evaluation and Project Analysis.

Support institutions and systems.

Internationalization Systems and Strategies.

The human factor in organizations.

Communication and the Elevator Pitch.

Intellectual capital and intellectual property rights (IP). Licensing of IP rights. Instruments for valuing and transferring technology. The figure of the academic spin-off.
