Base Knowledge

Knowledge of physics, hydraulics and hydrology and proficiency in reading/interpreting English.

Teaching Methodologies

(1) Theoretical-practical classes – combine theoretical exposition with the presentation and discussion of practical cases, and resolution of exercises. They are organized into two modules that structure the syllabus and allow for an intermediate evaluation.

(2) Tutorial orientation classes – more individual follow-up to enable a more detailed discussion of subjects, elimination of gaps and guidance of practical work.

(3) Realization of practical work, carried out in small groups, in order to favor students’ involvement, which culminate in presentations and oral discussions.

(4) A field trip as a practical demonstration of the contents presented and discussed in class.

1. Energy and environmental issues: national, European and global energy context, environmental problems associated with energy consumption, national and international political-legal framework, transition to a low-carbon economy

2. Basic concepts in energy, renewable and non-renewable sources, transformations and yield, fundamental laws and heat transfer phenomena

3. Renewable and non-renewable energy resources, technologies, application, advantages and disadvantages

PART 2

4. Energy management: principles, methodologies and strategies, main institutional agents, SGE

5. Energy management in buildings and industry: legal framework, challenges and complexity, strategies, energy efficiency measures, the behavior of energy end users

6. Energy transition, smart grids and sustainable mobility
