Classes will be face-to-face

The theoretical classes will be expositive for the presentation of the themes taught and the study materials.

 

The seminar classes may have experts invited to give a talk on themes related to the topics of the curricular unit or an opportunity to carry out practical work, challenges, patent search, progress meetings with the lecturer and clarifications on the progress of the assignments.

Learning Results

The objective of the curricular unit is to provide students’ knowledge and comprehension skills in the area of Entrepreneurship and Industrial Property, underpinned by classes presented by the lecturer, seminars and research conducted by students and guided by the lecturer.

In order to successfully complete the course, students should have developed the following skills:

– Deploy the acquired knowledge for solving specific issues in business, supported by own argumentation.

– Collect, select, and interpret relevant information in the area of Entrepreneurship, combined with the analysis, synthesis and formulation of opinions.

– Collect, select, and interpret relevant information in the area of Industrial Property, managing to interpret the specific documentation.

– Develop a business model and understand all the procedures necessary for starting a company, such as: legislative and fiscal framework and bureaucratic procedures of incorporation.

– Evaluate several alternatives and justify the proposed solutions.

– Communicate written and orally, in the context of group work.

Innovation and Entrepreneurship. Technological Ideas and Business Opportunities. The Process of Launching Startups. Market, Competition and Competitive Advantage. Business Opportunities Analysis’ Methodologies.

 

Understand the Business Model and Strategy. The Financial Assessment of the Business. The Business Plan. Launching a company: types of companies; legislative framework; fiscal framework; bureaucratic procedures of the incorporation.

 

Databases and search for patenting entities. International Patent Classification. Patent Application Examination. Portuguese Industrial Property Legislation. Intellectual property. Patent Application Filing.
