Environmental Systems Analysis

Base Knowledge

Given that this is an integrative course, it is recommended that students are approved in all previous courses.

Teaching Methodologies

Several methods and techniques are combined:

– Oral presentation of the contents necessary for the acquisition of skills with discussion and case studies;

– Specialized bibliographic research, with guidance from the professor, on particular topics of the program;

– Execution of practical work on the application of theoretical concepts;

– Use of computer modeling tools;

– Oral presentation and discussion of works;

– Tutorial guidance activities.

Learning Results

The learning objectives include the use of environmental modeling as a tool to (1) predict the effect of environmental impacts on natural, semi-natural or artificial systems and (2) manage environmental systems.

Program

Module 1. Modeling environmental impacts: models of dispersion of aquatic (Streeter & Phelps), atmospheric (Gauss and Pasquill) and noise pollutants;

Module 2. Modeling concepts; System dynamics; Population dynamics, biogeochemical and environmental management models; Conceptualization and modeling of the functioning of a system.
