Base Knowledge
Knowledge learned in the Environmental Quality Control and Chemistry Units
Teaching Methodologies
Laboratory classes aimed at carrying out liquid effluent analyzes and monitoring the operation of activated sludge treatment systems on pilot scale equipment.
Learning Results
At the end of this course the student is expected to be able to: Identify the main physicochemical parameters characterizing a potable, superficial, recreational or residual water analysis. Acquire skills and develop experimental rigor in the experimental determination of water quality control parameters. Understand the relevance of the parameters studied in the design and maintenance of water and effluent treatment facilities.
Program
1. Determination of the main parameters for the characterization of a water and / or waste water: pH and temperature. Color, hardness and alkalinity. Conductivity. Turbidity. Dissolved oxygen. Total phosphorus. Nitrates, total nitrogen and ammonia nitrogen. Solid content. Chemical Oxygen Demand and Total Organic Carbon.
2. Sampling and monitoring of a laboratory pilot of wastewater biological treatment.
