Forest Fires

Basic notions of combustion.

During class lessons content is developed and exposed using audiovisual media. In the practical classes, problems are also solved, case studies are analyzed and simulation software presented.

During the semester, visits are made to laboratories dedicated to the study of forest fires.

Specialists in the area of forest fires are invited to give lectures on various topics in the area of forest fires.

This curricular unit aims mainly to transmit the specific knowledge of the area of forest fires, namely: fire behavior, forest fuel beds and relevant meteorological factors; fire fighting and suppression; decision support systems.

At the end of this course students should be able to: understand the phenomenology of fire and forest fire spread; know the methods of fighting and preventing forest fires; know and know how to apply fire safety procedures in a forest fire.

• Prevention of forest fires.
• Fire fighting and control.
• Fire fighting operations.
• Access, land vehicles and aircraft.
• Fire fighting strategy and coordination.
• Security in the fire front.
