Fundamentos de Instalações Eléctricas

Base Knowledge

Analysis of electrical circuits

Teaching Methodologies

Theoretical presentation with incentive for the active participation of students, debates and examples of practical application.

Learning Results

At the end of this UC students should be able to:

  • identify and explain the main parts and equipment of an industrial and domestic electrical installation
  • classify locations regarding external influences and identify their respective IK and IP indices
  • calculate the power to hire
  • calculate currents in the conductors of an electrical installation
  • implement the entire heating criterion sequence for conductor sizing
  • implement the entire sequence of voltage drop criteria for conductor sizing
  • implement the entire overload protection selection sequence to protect the installation
  • calculate the capacitor bank to use for power factor compensation
  • identify and explain the principles of TT and TN systems for protecting people against electric shocks (indirect contacts)
