Game and wild vertebrates

Elementary knowledge of biology, systematics and ecology.

Theoretical exposition, followed by discussion of concrete examples of case studies. Preparation of practical assignments. Whenever feasible, study visits.

1. Know and be able to identify the main groups of vertebrates with forest importance, which are represented in our country.
2. Know the role played by the different vertebrate animal species as an integral part of forest ecosystems.
3. To know the influence of the management practices characteristic of the different forest systems of our country on the animal biodiversity of these systems. 
4. Know some techniques of exploitation and conservation of wildlife resources, namely hunting and fishing.
5. Know the criteria associated with the threat status of different animal species.

Animal bio-ecology.
Taxonomy and identification of the main vertebrate groups: – fish, amphibians, reptiles, birds, mammals.
The role of fauna in forest ecosystems. Relationships between forestry activity and faunal biodiversity.
Notions of game exploitation.
Notions of fish exploitation in inland waters.
The threat status of vertebrate species, relationships with forestry activity, Nature Conservation and Biodiversity.
