GIS and Remote Sensing

Base Knowledge

Geography, use of computer equipments and software, and familiarity with the use of internet tools for searching and learning.

Teaching Methodologies

Theoretical/practical classes, with a set of practical assignments for training and consolidating knowledge. Theoretical/practical classes will take place in the geomatics and planning laboratory.

Learning Results

As learning outcomes, the student should:

1. know the concepts and principles of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and recognize their role as a tool to support decision-making in land management;

2 – Master the methodologies for analyzing and processing information in Remote Sensing (RD);

3 – Use the techniques and tools available (in GIS and RD) to prepare project components and their implementation.

Program

The program contents for acquiring the 3 competences described above are divided into two learning modules: Module 1 – Basic concepts in Geographic Information Systems, namely: cartography, spatial analysis, data collection, and digital processing of remote sensing images to support the decision-making process. Module 2 – Integration of the knowledge acquired in the resolution of concrete problems
