Teaching Methodologies
A Unidade Curricular será implementada através de um conjunto de aulas presidenciais, de trabalhos individuais e de trabalhos de grupo que resultarão na elaboração de uma estratégia de optimização da utilização de recursos para um caso prático específico.
As aulas presidenciais e os casos de estudo serão em grande medida suportados pela experiência de investigação do docente nas diferentes áreas a serem abordadas.
A avaliação dos primeiro e segundo módulos será efectuada pela realização de um trabalho individual em que os discentes desenvolverão um tema baseados em revisão bibliográfica.
O terceiro módulo será avaliado através de um trabalho de grupo destinado à resolução de um caso específico de gestão de recursos.
Learning Results
Students must knows the impacts of the main changes that humanity will suffer in the next decades [Climate change, demographic growth, degradation of natural resources, the end of cheap energy] on the quality of life and the sustainability of human populations.
This includes the major sustainability strategies and sustainability methodologies based on environmental management tools.
Students must develop competences in the elaboration of local strategies to optimize the management of resources, and to combat environmental degradation, leading to the improvement of the income of local populations and the preservation of the environment.

Climate change and its impacts on water, carbon, nutrients cycles and on the occurrence of natural hazards (storms, droughts)
Implications of population growth regarding the availability and distribution of resources.

Degradation and depletion of natural resources.
The end of oil. Impact of the end of cheap energy.
Impact of globalization on populations quality of life
