Teaching Methodologies
In Theoretical-Practical classes, the expository method is used when explaining theoretical issues and solving exercises in groups and individually.
Students must perform technical-scientific interpretation work and group research.
Tutorial classes are dedicated to clarifying doubts and monitoring the progress of the work’s resolution. In addition, students will be monitored, by clarifying theoretical doubts and solving exercises.
In this academic year, we intend to introduce the methodology of Project Based Learning (PBL) in a group of subjects of the disciplinary group of Constructions. Students are intended to develop practical works within the scope of the project of a single-family house and will include several subjects, namely, Design and Construction Systems, Civil Constructions and Operations Management.
The aim is that students will start by working in the design phase of the building, developing constructive solutions and detailing them according to the rules of the art of building well and verifying compliance with the legislation in force, elaborating projects of specialties, namely, energy performance, acoustic behaviour and building water supply and drainage networks. They will then prepare the bill of quantities required to carry out the project, calculate a cost estimate, prepare the planning of all quantified and budgeted works, and finally simulate the construction through the preparation of monthly bills.
As mentioned, the guiding thread of this whole process will be the fact that it is the same building, and therefore, the same project, which will allow students to apply concretely and consistently the knowledge transmitted in a real situation throughout their degree.
Learning Results
Analysis and study of buildings regarding thermo hygrometric behavior and acoustic behavior. Select materials and construction solutions that ensure energy-efficient buildings, with good acoustic conditions, natural lighting and ventilation.
