Program

The physiotherapist and his intervention. Base of training; History and development of physiotherapy. Level national: beginning of century. XX to the present. International level: constituent components of professional support physiotherapy: massage; medical gymnastics; medical electricity (4 hours)

The physiotherapist as a health professional. Sociological concept of the profession

The profile of the physiotherapist (2 hours)

Framework of physiotherapy practice in Portugal: regulations and practice contexts

Trends in the future evolution of the profession: exercise; training; investigation (4 hours)

Professional associations: National (Portuguese Association of Physiotherapists): objectives, competences, constituent bodies, regional extensions, interest groups; International: World Confederation of Physical Therapy – objectives, competencies, statements of principles and position statements.WCPT and WHO(4 hours)

Professional behaviors: Autonomy and professional responsibility (includes standards of practice of physiotherapy) (4 hours)

Altruism, dedication, integrity and cultural competence (includes patients’ rights and duties).

Ethical behavior: ethics and physiotherapy and ethical principles. Professional duty (includes rules of conduct professional – deontological code). Personal/professional development

Social responsability; Teamwork. Unions (4 hours).
