–          Unit 1: Critical reading and listening

Assessing texts critically, critical thinking, summarising, and paraphrasing

–          Unit 2: Planning a text

Relevance, referencing, combining sources and using quotations

–          Unit 3: Writing for academic purposes

Language of discussion, cohesion, use of caution and linkers

–          Unit 4: Accuracy:

Punctuation, abbreviations, phrasal and prepositional verbs and verb patterns.

–          Unit 5: Academic vocabulary

English vocabulary for specific areas like the sciences and humanities

–          Unit 6: Speaking in an academic context

Speech making, describing data and register

–          Unit 7: Writing specific texts

Writing letters, reports, brochures, essays and thesis

–          Unit 8: Improving a text or speech

Arguing and persuading, talking about cause and effect, stating facts and opinions and comparing and contrasting.
