TEACHING METHODOLOGIES:

Lectures, group work, possible visits to Audiology laboratories and testimonies.

Learning Results

The student should acquire a set of knowledge related to his academic option in the field of Audiology.

The student will gain knowledge of the historical trajectory of Audiology as a science and as a profession.

The student should know the historical milestones of the evolution of your profession, both nationally and internationally.

The student should also know the career in which you are inserted as a professional in Public Administration, as well as its functional content, both in terms of Audiology and the other professions in which audiology belong.

Through the ability of analysis and critical thinking, you should acquire knowledge that suits your attitudes both at the technical-scientific level and at the level of humanization as a future health professional.

The student should also reveal knowledge about the organization and regulations of the Coimbra Health School.

Program

Presentation and mark evaluation of the curricular unit – 3 hours;

3 hours: History of Health Technology Schools; History of the Coimbra Health School (ESTeSC); Organization of ESTeSC: Statutes; Management and Scientific Bodies; Departments; Academic Regulation and Calendar;

3 hours: History of the Audiology Course in Portugal and in particular at ESTeSC; History of Audiology: Audiology in Europe and the USA; Audiology in Portugal;

6 hours: Definition of Hearing/Hypoacusis; Impact of Congenital and Acquired Hearing Impairment; Deaf Community; Definition of Balance/Vertigo; Subjects associated with Audiology; Audiology practice areas: – Prevention; – Assessment/Diagnosis; – Rehabilitation; – Counseling; in the different age groups (children, youth, young adults and the elderly); Apps developed that can be applied in the field of Audiology;

3 hours: Audiological Tests;

6 hours: Audiologist Profession: – Legislation; – Associations; – Unions.

3 hours: Professional ethics.

Visit to the Audiology Laboratory – 1.5 hours;

Study Visits – 9 hours;

Audiologist Testimonials – 4.5 hours

Clarification of Doubts and Final Assessment Frequency-3 hours.
