Expository classes to present the concepts and models of the syllabus, with Powerpoint support.

Learning Results

Objectives:

Understand the basic principles of organization and management of companies and organizations, from the strategic to the operational level in multiple areas, creating a common domain of knowledge between engineers and managers.

The skills to be acquired are:

Structural knowledge about the challenges addressed to the management of organizations.

Understand the influence of economic, social, technological and political environments on organizations and their managers.

Ability to assess and understand the importance of competitiveness and business ethics, through the use of tools and knowledge that allow management to be exercised, in the context of the company’s culture, in a business perspective open to innovation and change.

Understand the basic principles of organizational behavior.

Understand the fundamentals principles of corporate finance.

Identify the different horizons for planning the operations and the procedures to be applied in each case.

Know the different management philosophies and tools associated with them.

Understand and apply appropriate tools for the development and analysis of business plans.

Generically, the intention is to develop the capacities of analysis and problem solving, applying the acquired knowledge.

Program

1. Managers, management and Organizations

Organizations and the society in which we live. Different types of organizations and their stakeholders. Organizational resources. Management and managers. Functions and levels of management. Management and the decision-making process. The evolution of management theories and the different approaches to organizational problems.

2. Strategic Management

Strategic thinking. Vision, mission and goals. External and internal strategic analysis and SWOT analysis. The value chain and Porter’s 5 forces model. Strategic formulation: corporate strategy and business strategy. Strategic implementation and control: organizational structure, management policies and management control.

3. Marketing

Market orientation: create value, satisfy needs and facilitate exchanges. Markets and their segmentation. The various market players. Marketing – mix: product, price, distribution and communication; people, process and physical evidence. The positioning. Marketing plan and strategy.

4. Human resource management and organizational behavior

Human resource management. The levels of analysis of organizational behavior: the individual, the group and the organization. Leadership and Motivation.

5. Organizational Structure

The key elements of the organizational structure: chain of command, division of labor, degree of centralization and formalization. Structure types. Organic and mechanical structures. Contingency factors

6. Financial Information

Financial information, general accounting principles and accounting standards. Financial flows in business activity. Financial Statements: Balance Sheet, Income Statement and Cash Flow Statement. The time value of money and economic analysis of investment projects.

7. Entrepreneurship and new business ventures

Entrepreneurship and the generation of business ideas: value proposition, business model and business plan.
