Learning Results

This UC seeks to develop knowledge and important mathematical skills for the development of certain topics covered in this course, stimulating logical reasoning and critical thinking. In particular, it is intended that students develop the ability to:

– Formulate simple problems mathematically.

– Interpret and solve problems of a geometric nature.

– Describe objects in the plane and in space using different coordinate systems.

– Solve simple problems using derivatives and primitives of a function, in particular in calculating rates of change and areas of plane surfaces, respectively.

– Summarize and characterize sample statistical data.

– Characterize the degree of association between two statistical variables and model the relationship between them.

Program

1. Geometry: Area and volume of common shapes; Trigonometry in the right triangle; Orthonormed frame of reference in the plane and in space; points in rectangular coordinates and polar coordinates; curves in the plane and in space.

2. Study of functions: Generalities about functions; Derivative of a function and its meaning; Derivation rules; Primitive functions; Primitivation Rules; Definite integral.

3. Statistics: Statistical treatment of sample data; Frequency distribution; Measures of central tendency and measures of dispersion; Bivariate data analysis.
