Medidas e Instrumentação

Base Knowledge

basic principles of electrical circuit analysis.

Teaching Methodologies

In theoretical classes, an oral presentation of the subject is made with the support of slide projection. The
theoretical exposition of concepts is complemented by the formulation and resolution of application
exercises.

On the Nonio platform, students are provided with the slides used in classes and a set of exercise sheets
(with solutions) in order to promote the student’s independent study and consolidation of knowledge.

In laboratory classes, which are mandatory, practical group work is carried out to explore and consolidate
the syllabus.

Learning Results

This curricular unit aims to raise students’ awareness of the importance that experimental methods can have in solving engineering problems and provide training that allows them to operate, configure and select measurement systems.

Students must acquire the following skills:

– Know and understand the principle and know how to use the main electrical measuring devices;

– Know and understand the operating principle of the different elements of an instrumentation system;

– Know and understand the main characteristics, applications and limitations of Operational Amplifiers;

– Know and understand the main principles of transduction;

– have the ability to develop small applications in Virtual Instrumentation.

Program

1. Fundamentals of Instrumentation

2. International metrological system

3. Measurement of electrical quantities and measuring devices

4. Operational amplifiers: Basic assemblies and limitations

5. Instrumentation and isolation amplifiers

6. Measurement of non-electrical quantities: Transduction principles / Industrial Sensors

7. Virtual Instruments and Automatic Measurement Systems
