Optimization of Resources

Learning Results

This course addresses mathematical programming models devoted to practical problems involving the
management of resources. It gives strong emphasis to modelling techniques, the use of adequate software to
solve these mathematical models and encouraged solutions discussion, resorting to alternative scenarios and,
where possible, sensitivity and parametric analysis techniques. Optimization problems involving resource
management in project planning, production planning with resource management, location problems, roster
and crew scheduling, will be discussed along the course.
It is intended to make students able to identify resource management problems within the running structure of
a company. To reveal mathematical modelling skills involving the mentioned problems and know techniques to
solve those problems, including adequate software. The student should also reveal the ability to discuss the
solutions given by the model.
