Expository classes to present the fundamental concepts supported by the discussion of cases and real life examples.
Classes oriented to problem solving, assisted work and presentation / discussion of works.
Assignments to be done during the semester, with presentation/discussion and written test/exam.

Learning Results

To understand the basic principles of organization and management of companies and organizations, from the strategic level to the operational, providing an integrated view of its processes and different functional areas, with a particular focus on operations management, creating a common domain of knowledge between engineers and managers.
Specifically:
Understand the influence of economic, social, technological and political environments on organizations and the main determinants of the strategic management.
Understand the functioning of a company and the development of its main management policies, in different functional areas.
Identify the different planning horizons of the operations.
Anticipate needs, plan and scale resources, ensuring compliance with goals and optimizing operations.
Apply project planning and control techniques.
Analyze and solve problem, applying the knowledge acquired.
Collect, process and interpret information relating to the management of organizations.

1. Introduction to management and organizations.Basic principles of management.
2. Strategic management. Market orientation. Competitivity and firm resources. Strategic analysis and formulation.
3. Functionl strategies. Marketing plan. Organizational structure. Human resource management and Organizational behavior.
4. Basics of Finance. Financial Statements. Time value of money and capital budgeting methods.
5. Planning and programming of operations. Planning horizons: strategic, aggregate and short-term. Shop-floor control and production routing. Scheduling.
6. Programming and management of materials. Capacity Planning. Inventory management with dependent and independent demand. Deterministic and stochastic models.
7. project planning and control. Networks and critical path determination, CPM and PERT.
8. New production philosophies. Mass production vs. Lean production Lean Tools.
