Organização Industrial

Base Knowledge

Knowledge of mathematics calculus regarding partial derivatives, integrals and equation systems.

Teaching Methodologies

The content of the course is taught based on theoretical and practical classes in which teacher-student interaction is promoted. The theoretical classes specify the theoretical topics of Business Economics, with graphical illustration, mathematical proofs and description of theory content. The practical classes support the material covered in theoretical classes through practical exercises to provide better clarification of the
theory.
Regarding the evaluation, the following methods are expected:
1) Evaluation by midterm tests, comprising three individual written tests;

2) Evaluation by examination, comprising one individual written test.

Learning Results

Industrial Organisation integrates an area of economics that focuses on the functioning of markets and industries, i.e. it assesses the dynamics of competition or competition between firms. The aim is to provide students with a global insight into real markets and the role of organizations and their structures in the performance of those markets. At the end of the course unit the student is expected to be able to:
1) know how to enunciate and solve problems in an industrial organization context;
2) know about the functioning of imperfect competition markets;
3) know how to evaluate business strategies in this market structure.
