Physiotherapy in Neuro-muscular Conditions

Base Knowledge

Assessment and intervention techniques in physical therapy

Teaching Methodologies

Presentation: to present the themes/contents, raise problems and guide the students’ approach;

Use of different cases to illustrate the themes under study;

Small group discussion (4-5 students), common or diverse tasks.

Learning Results

Apply the principles of assessment, diagnosis, programming and intervention in conditions and problems associated with the neuromuscular system, as well as preparing adequate records, based on Functionality/Disability;

Organize the elements associated with Physiotherapy procedures according to the Structures, Functions, Activities/Participation and Contextual Factors components;

Develop strategies focused on education/advising users/patients and family members and on the knowledge of the contribution of different members of the health team so that the physiotherapist has a global view of the user/patient;

Critically analyze the models and practical strategies in the different contexts in which the physiotherapist works;

Evaluate evidence of practice in the context of neuromuscular conditions.

Thus, affective skills and competences are obtained: growth in the emotional/behavioral and attitudinal areas; cognitive: reflective mental performance and knowledge; and psychomotor: practical-instrumental skills (manual performance).
