Teaching Methodologies

 

The planned teaching methodologies include expository and inquisitive dynamics, as well as group discussion and problem solving, stimulating individual intervention and criticism. Research papers and proposals and dynamic strategies for solving the problems addressed will be developed, as well as their written presentation and oral discussion. Experiments will also be carried out to contact related software tools.

Learning Results

 

Acquisition of knowledge regarding risks, vulnerabilities and disasters in urban areas, with regard to their identification, causes, effects, and preventive measures: fires, earthquakes, tsunamis, sea action, floods, wind, among other risks. Development of specific skills in Risk Assessment, Vulnerability Analysis and Mitigation Strategies. Acquisition of knowledge and strategies on: the role of Urban Planning in Risk Mitigation; Urban Disaster Risk Reduction; Building Resilient Cities.

• Wind: general notions about the quantification of wind action; effects on isolated buildings and in urban space, strategies to reduce damage caused by wind;

• Earthquake: general notions on the quantification of earthquake action; areas of greater seismic risk, effects on buildings, strategies in urban space and in the design of structures to reduce damage caused by earthquakes;

5 – Hydrological Risks

• Hydrology general concepts (small work applying a precipitation-runoff model);

• Urban Floods (demonstration of the SWMM computer program with regard to SUDS modeling);

• Floods in riverside areas;

• Tsunami Warning and Warning Systems.
