Teaching Methodologies

The teaching methodology of this CU favours students’ self-training through contact with professionals and experts in the sector, in a diverse range of activities/initiatives: 1) study visits; 2) lunches/dinners debates; and 3) lectures/seminars. To pass (minimum 10 marks), the assessment of the UC will have as compulsory the continuous assessment, according to the following parameters:
a) participate in the activities/initiatives (20%);
b) completion of individual or group critical analysis reports on the themes and case studies presented/visited, or the resolution of problems/challenges and their discussion during or after the activities/initiatives (80%).
In case of failure by continuous assessment, the student will have access to assessment by final examination (resource period), which consists in the realization of a single written test of knowledge assessment (100%), to be held in the respective assessment period.

Learning Results

This curricular unit aims to develop a set of skills through the direct contact of students with professionals in the tourism and hotel industry in a real context. The aim is to consolidate some of the knowledge explored in the classroom in the different curricular units with specific examples shared by professionals in the sector, either through field trips, seminars in the classroom, outdoors or online. In this way, students are expected to be able to:
Understand the dynamics of tourism and hotel activity;
Develop tourism and hotel services based on the reality of the sector and current trends;
Develop critical thinking and problem-solving;
Identify action strategies to be developed creating innovative experiences;
Identify possible areas of research applied to their final research project.
