Teaching Methodologies

The teaching and learning process is based on:

– classes of presentation and discussion of contents by teachers and students;

– exercises and analysis of practical cases in the classroom. Specific software utilization.

Learning Results

Know the ecology and population dynamics of terrestrial vertebrate species and intervene correctly in its ordering and management, depending on its protection status.

Conceive management alternatives according to the objectives, the characteristics of the areas and the needs of the species.

Model and monitor the application of management alternatives, to their validation and continuous improvement.

Program

Wildlife. Concept, interactions with other natural resources and their uses. The need for management. Nature conservation, hunting, birdwatching and other activities. Wildlife vs. Agriculture and Forestry Systems. Conflict management and enhancement measures for wildlife.

Population dynamics. Systematization of population management problems. Population quantification. Existing methodologies. Indices, direct and indirect counts, with capture of individuals. Available software.

Game management. Concepts and definitions. Planning and management topics for populations of game species. Global/Specific Management Plans and population modelling.

Recovery and management of Endangered Species. Concepts and associated particularities.
