Outgoing Students

Mobility for Study (SMS)

The Erasmus+ programme offers students the possibility to undertake a study mobility (SMS) for a period ranging from 3 to 12 months within a partner higher education institution. The student can apply for a grant which is a contribution to cover, in part, the costs associated with travelling to and living in another country. The student is exempted from paying tuition fees at the host university.

Mobility for Internships (SMT)

This programme offers the possibility to PUC students or graduates to carry out a mobility internship overseas, for a minimum period of 2 to 12 months, per course of study. The internship may take place in higher education institutions, research centres, companies or any other entity or organisation based in the EU.

The Erasmus mobility can take place in one of the 28 countries of the European Union, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway, Macedonia and Turkey (excluding Portugal).

The Erasmus+ programme allows three types of internship:

Curricular Internships: these are academically recognised within the course and are integrated into the work developed for the corresponding curricular unit (Internship/Project/Thesis);

Extracurricular Internships: these are carried out as students, but as they have no equivalence in the course curriculum they should be included in the Diploma Supplement;

– Internships for Recent Graduates: these internships must be completed within one year of the graduation date. Applications may be submitted while still a student (in the final year).

Students/graduates have several ways to find an internship:

– Contact companies or entities of interest directly;

– Consult some international websites and platforms that offer internship opportunities and submit your application. Examples:

Grants

According to article 17 of the Erasmus+ Regulation – Mobility of students/teachers/non-teaching staff, the amounts of the grants to be awarded to students selected for mobility on study/internships are set by the International Relations Officers of the UOE, within the framework of the amounts pre-defined by the National Agency (NA) for each Erasmus year, taking into account the destination country and the duration of the mobility period.

Mobility grants contribute towards the additional costs of the host country’s cost of living as well as travel costs.
