Master in Civil enginnering - specialization in Urban Construction

Course Objectives

ISEC has a positive experience in the training of graduates in the 1st cycle of Civil Eng., with a generalist profile, recognized as added value in the construction business. Following this initial generalist training, this course aims to deepen the knowledge obtained there and, simultaneously, create conditions for a professional performance specialized in a highly multi-disciplinary area, the urban construction, dedicated to solving the problems of towns and assembling areas as diverse as: road and traffic engineering, territorial planning, urban design, urban hydraulic infrastructures, structures, geotechnical and construction and rehabilitation technologies.
The advanced training in an integrated manner is the objective of the course, and not just a cumulative knowledge of the domains that constitute the urban construction, which requires increasingly enabled technicians, dominating the technical and regulated environment and that act satisfying the requirements of quality.
The master course in Urban Construction lasts for 2 years and consists of a set of 15 curricular units, oriented to ensure the acquisition of a professional specialization, to which corresponds a total of 75 credit units and the duration of 2.5 academic semesters. After, there is a period of 1.5 semesters for the implementation of a research work, a project or an internship, to be developed under the guidance of a teacher, in a laboratory of the Department of Civil Engineering of ISEC, or in partnership with a company, an institution or a research organization.

Learning Objectives

The design of the course is based on the following guidelines:
1. To provide a course plan in an area of specialization with high professional activity within the construction industry;
2. To adopt a curricular plan dominated by units of specialty sciences, giving less weight to subjects related to engineering sciences and basic sciences;
3. To define syllabus with a highly professionalizing orientation, highlighting the acquisition of specific skills in the field of know-how, with particular emphasis on issues that are most relevant to the pursuit of the profession in the field of construction and urban management;
4. To give priority to the realization of a project work or an internship instead of a scientific thesis, in order to enhance the mentioned professional nature of the master course;
5. To adopt teaching methodologies that favor the development of the generic skills that are most relevant to the good practice of the engineering profession;
6. The concern for assembling teachers with a strong component of specialists with recognized professional experience, ensuring thereby a practice-oriented teaching of engineering and the acquisition of the skills necessary for the practice of the profession.
The diploma of this course allows, at any level, to practice actions of civil engineering associated with acquired knowledge in the fields of structures, constructions, hydraulics and water resources, territory, transportation and geotechnics. One can identify capacities and skills in these areas, such as: management and supervision of works, design, public and private administration and management of enterprises.
The graduates with this degree of master will be entitled to apply the acquired knowledge to solve new professional problems in real environment; they will have the ability to evaluate and assess new situations and even to innovate, since they are capable of autonomous learning of new issues and developments and the implementation of new technologies and are also able to work and lead multidisciplinary teams.

Access to Superior Studies
