Clinical Audiology III

Base Knowledge

The student must have knowledge of performing and interpreting behavioral and physiological hearing assessment;

The student must have knowledge of performing and interpreting electrophysiological assessment of hearing;

The student must have knowledge of the main audio-vestibular pathologies and the way they translate into each hearing assessment test.

Learning Results

To know the mechanisms and fundamentals of (central) auditory processing ;

To acquire knowledge about behavioral tests to assess (central) auditory processing;

To acquire knowledge about auditory training and its principles;

To acquire knowledge about differential diagnosis between (central) auditory processing disorders and other disorders such as hearing loss, dementia, and dyslexia;

To acquire knowledge about the auditory effort, its assessment, and its implications in Audiology;

To study the mechanisms of the bone pathway;

To know the concepts and fundamentals of Hyperacusis, Phonophobia, and Misophonia and their relationship with tinnitus;

To know the principles of the study of tinnitus;

Program

Presentation of the curricular unit and schedule of evaluation dates and methodologies – 1 hour

1. Bone conduction mechanisms – 2 hours

2. Hypersensitivity – 3 hours:

2.1 hyperacusis

2.2 phonophobia

2.3 misophonia

2.4 tinnitus

3. (Central) Auditory processing – 3 hours

3.1 principles

3.2 application

3.3 changes

4. Behavioral tests to detect (central) auditory processing disorders – 9 hours

5. Principles of auditory training and basic protocols – 3 hours

6. Differential diagnosis of (central) auditory processing disorders – 3 hours

7. Study of hearing effort – 3 hours

8. Clarification of doubts – 1 hour

9. Written assessment – 2 hours

Tutorial guidance:

1. Guidance on the elaboration of audiological reports of the different tests applied in audiology in different pathological situations – 6 hours

2. Practical demonstration of the different (central) auditory processing assessment behavioral tests – 9 hours
