Laboratórios de Biomecânica Aplicada

Teaching Methodologies

The initial component of the course will be taught using the expository method and visualization of multimedia content. Afterwards, with students divided into workgroups, various laboratory tests will be carried out in rotation, involving gait analysis, a study of plantar pressure distribution, evaluation of thermal maps, the study of forces, among others. A critical analysis of these works will be carried out, resulting in a report of the experimental work. In the final phase of the curricular unit, a work to be carried out in a group is distributed, which is agglutinating and that intends to deepen and cement the competencies regarding the equipment and methodologies used. Students will be familiarized with 3D printing techniques at this stage, being provided access to the laboratory’s printers. Thus, the challenge of the work, which will focus on one of the experimental domains, may involve the development and implementation of a mechanical support component. The curricular unit’s evaluation is based on the interim reports of the experimental work carried out and based on the final work to be delivered to the teacher in the form of a report. The final work will be subject to a presentation and discussion before the teacher and peers, who may be challenged to participate in the assessment process actively.

Learning Results

Contact with equipment and equipment systems in biomechanics is essential for biomedical engineers. In this sense, it is intended that students come into contact with various experimental approaches in the field of biomechanics. As an exclusive laboratory Curricular Unit, students will implement a set of experimental procedures within various domains of applied biomechanics.
It is also intended that students come into contact with tools to materialize functional prototypes, especially in computer-aided manufacturing and the implementation of additional materials.

Program

Assessment tools and systems in biomechanics. Definition of biomechanical assessment methodologies and protocols. Execution of laboratory work involving evaluation equipment and experimental analysis, such as gait analysis, distribution of plantar pressure maps, temperature and analysis maps, evaluation of forces and displacements, … Etc. Experimental work, which may involve the implementation of additive manufacturing technologies.
