No basic knowledge is required other than the knowledge a student must have after completing compulsory secondary education

Teaching Methodologies

Classes are theoretical-practical (TP)

In approaching the themes, audiovisual and digital media will be used to present the content and examples that illustrate them, as well as practical cases to encourage active participation.

The pedagogical methods used will be: expository, interrogative and case study, enabling a practical, active approach with student interaction so that there is facilitation for the creation of ideas and confirmation of the content learned, as well as a strong approach to current contexts

Learning Results

The main purpose of this subject is to provide students with theoretical-practical knowledge that allows them to identify and understand:

i) the evolution of the Portuguese economy in recent decades;

ii) the most strategic productive sectors for the country’s economic growth;
ii) the role of major structural reforms in the process of economic globalization;

iii) the Portuguese economy’s ability to respond to current competitiveness challenges;

iv) the main public policies developed in recent years.

At the end of the curricular unit, students should be able to understand the evolution of the Portuguese economy over the last few decades and the consequences of the different public policies adopted in Portugal in recent years

I – The Portuguese economy over the last decades

1. From the first republic to the military dictatorship (1910 – 1926).

2. From stabilization to the creation of the pre-conditions for growth (1926 – 1950).

3. The “Golden Period” of growth of the Portuguese economy (1950 – 1974).

4. The post-revolution period – the situation of the economy between 1974-1976.

5. The transition period for Europe (1976-1985).

6. The 80s and 90s – the European period.

7. The first decade of the century. XXI and the economic and financial crisis of recent years.
