B1 level of general English.

Teaching Methodologies

Comprehension of both written and audio texts, gap-filling exercises, matching exercises, Synonyms and
antonyms, role-play, group and individual work, written production, speaking, presentation of assignments.

Learning Results

The final objective of this Curricular Unit is to improve and develop the English knowledge of all the students,
introducing technical vocabulary in the area of Engineering. It is expected that at the end of this unit,
students are capable of understanding both written and spoken English in several contexts.

Program

1. Grammar and Vocabulary: Revision and consolidation of verb tenses in the present/ past/ future, their
rules and usages; Revision and clarification of any questions related to grammar as they come up in class
(Determiners/ Articles/ Pronouns/ Adjectives and Adverbs); Word Formation (Prefixes/ Suffixes); Study of
technical vocabulary in the area of engineering.

2. Language: Sentence structure and linkers/ connectors; Clauses of contrast, purpose and result; Phrasal
Verbs; Punctuation and Spelling.

3. Technical Vocabulary: Materials used in Engineering and theirs characteristics, Mechanisms; The electric
motor; Refrigerating; Gears; Tools and Machines; Electricity and measurement; Fluid Motion; The
combustion Engine.

4. Oral/ written comprehension and production: Reading-Comprehension of of technical texts and Listening
to short dialogues; Writing texts in different formats and styles; Speaking.
