Base Knowledge

It is recommended that students have already attended all the subjects of the course, in order to have acquired the basic knowledge corresponding to the fundamental area of the Internship.

In addition, it is essential that the student:

– has oral and written communication skills;

– is able to deal with the digital tools used in the area where the internship takes place;

– reveals ability to reflect critically and to solve problems;

– has attended the training courses created specifically to support the preparation of the Internship Report.

Teaching Methodologies

In this subject, the student will be placed in real learning situations – in the host organization -, being desirable to apply the concepts and contents learned throughout the course.

Learning Results

The main objective of this subject is to provide the student, in a work context – in a public or private organization, for-profit or non-profit -, with skills in the fields of Finance and Accounting, namely through the development of activities in the areas of banking commercial and investment, portfolio and risk management, insurance and pension funds, corporate finance, financial and investment consultancy and management information systems.

The subject also has the following specific objectives:

– to provide the student with contact with the work reality of the area in which the internship takes place;

– to promote the interconnection between the contents taught during the course and work practice;

– to create work routines for the student;

– to allow the student to interact with experienced professionals, in order to valuing the acquired knowledge during the course;

– to increase networking skills;

– to develop soft-skills;

– to promote the student’s integration into the labor market.

 

Therefore, the main skills to be developed are the following:

1) Technical skills, through the increase and reinforcement of knowledge related to the internship area;

2) Skills of a professional nature, through the creation of work routines, time management, problem solving and contact with the host organization’s organizational culture;

3) Networking skills, through contact with experienced professionals and integration into multidisciplinary teams;

4) Oral and written communication skills, both at national and international levels.

Program

The internship has a minimum of 131 hours of business/organizational practice and will preferably be carried out in the areas of Finance and Accounting mentioned above.

In procedural terms, the following stages, foreseen and developed in the Regulation of Internships of the 1st Cycle of Studies of ISCAC, must be fulfilled:

1) Submission of the internship proposal, which must include an indication of the host organization, supervisor and possible advisor, as well as the internship plan, defined jointly by the supervisor, the student and the advisor proposed by the student (if exists);

2) Attendance of prior training sessions in order to support the frequency of the internship and the preparation of the respective report;

3) Frequency of the internship in the continuous period modality, foreseen in the school calendar, whenever possible and provided that it has the acceptance of the company, or in another period, since it extends between the first day of classes of the second semester until, at the most, the August 31st;

4) Elaboration of the internship report, following the APA norms for citations and bibliographical references, with a maximum number of 30 pages (counting from the Introduction and excluding Annexes) and with the structure and minimum contents indicated below;

5) Submission of the report, accompanied by the other requested documents, such as the student’s attendance sheet at the internship location, supervisor’s agreement opinion and supervisor’s evaluation report.

6) Presentation and discussion of the report.

 

The report must have the following structure:

1) Cover: company/institution, title (theoretical theme chosen to develop), name of Degree, student name and number, place and date.

2) Back cover: title (theoretical theme chosen to develop), name of the company/institution, name of the student, name of the advisor and supervisor, internship period.

3) Term of Responsibility/Declaration of Authorship/Anti-Plagiarism Declaration.

4) Summary: summary of the report, including the theoretical topics addressed, the objectives and main results and recommendations.

5) Index.

6) List of tables.

7) List of Figures.

8) List of Acronyms/Acronyms, Abbreviations and/or Symbols.

9) Introduction: the objective(s) of the internship, the duration and duration of the internship; brief presentation of the host organization and the department/function where the internship took place; specification, in a synthetic way, of the central theoretical theme chosen for the work, substantiating it with credible bibliography; indication of the structure of the report.

10) Theoretical framework: theoretical development of a theme related to the activities of the internship or those of the company and which fits within the scope of the course; Citations must be submitted in accordance with APA guidelines.

11) Internship: general description of the sector and the company; detailed description of the activities carried out during the internship, the projects developed during the internship and the main contributions developed by the student.

12) Conclusion: general evaluation of the internship by comparison with the objectives defined for it; summary of the main knowledge acquired by the student and the main contributions of the student to the company; critical analysis of the knowledge acquired during the course and its adequacy to the internship; identification of the main training gaps felt.

13) Bibliographical references: bibliographical sources to support the elaboration of the report.

14) Annexes and Appendices (optional): any additional documents that may be relevant to the report.

Remark: The Internship supervisor is in charge of monitoring the student in the various stages of its completion, and meeting and maintaining contact with the supervisor, in order to resolve any issues that may arise. This contact must be established at least one (1) time. In case the distance to the internship location justifies it, meetings between advisor and supervisor can be held remotely, and the student can be called to participate in these meetings.

Bibliography

The bibliography will depend on the objectives and scope of the Internship, and it must be defined casuistically and jointly by the student and the both supervisors.
