– Ability to translate technical texts in both Portuguese and English;
– Understanding and mastering of the main syntatic, morphological and semantic differences between
Portuguese and English;
– Acquisition of relevant technical vocabulary for the present study area;
– Mastering of the idiomatic expressions related with the study area;
– Mastering of the two working languages (syntax, morphology and semantics).
Program
– Analysis of the main differences between Portuguese and English (syntax, vocabulary, verbs, semantics);
– Short analysis on translation theories, their importance and relevance for the translation practice;
– Brainstorming on translation issues;
– Revision of important aspects of the Portuguese and English grammars (verb tenses, phrasal verbs,
prepositions, pronouns, adjectives, false friends);
– Technical vocabulary of relevant areas for the present course;
– Practical application of the theoretical knowledge acquired with the translation of real texts;
– Demonstration and use of translation informatics tools.
