Wildfire management machinery and infrastructures

Base Knowledge

First-hand knowledge.

Teaching Methodologies

In order to achieve the objectives of the curricular unit and the conference of the competences foreseen for the students, the teaching-learning process is based on:

1. Lectures;

2. Practical classes in the workshops and in the office.

Learning Results

1. Know the general principles associated with the operation of machines and equipment and their use, maintenance and repair. Know the various equipment associated with the defense of the forest against fires.

2. Know the various infrastructures needed to fight fires. Understand the design of a road network and water supply project. Know the various constructive steps in the implementation of road networks for water abatement. Master the various infrastructure maintenance operations.

Program

Engines (constitution and operation. Intake, feeding, lubrication, cooling and electrical systems); Tractors and related machinery (tyres, transmission system, steering, brakes, hydraulic system); Equipment (implements, shredders, exploration equipment). Presentation of the main infrastructures fundamental to the fight against forest fires; Forest road network. Objectives, conception, design, composition, hierarchy of the road network and its implementation. Constructive aspects of forest paths. Integration of the road network and the forest divisional network; Maintenance of the forest road network. Cleaning and protection operations. Particular study of the drainage of forest paths. Installation of ditches, transversal drains, hydraulic passages and crossings of water lines; Studies of the water supply network for fighting forest fires. Natural and artificial water points.
