Higher Technical Professional Course in Control and Quality in the Agrifood Industry

Course Objectives

Plan, monitor, carry out tasks and control industrial food production, supervise food production activities, processes and facilities, implement new processing and conservation technologies, implement quality control and food safety systems, contributing to the sustainable operation and development of agri-food industries independently or under guidance.

Access Conditions

Under the terms of article 40-E of Decree-Law no. 74/2006, of 24 March, you can apply for access to the CTeSP:1) Holders of a secondary education course or legally equivalent qualification;
2) Those who have passed the specially appropriate tests designed to assess the ability to attend higher education for those over 23 years of age, carried out for the course in question, under the terms of Decree-Law no. 64/2006, of 21 March, amended by Decree-Laws no. 113/2014, of 16 July and 63/2016, of 13 September;
3) Holders of a technological specialisation diploma, a higher professional technician diploma or a higher education degree.

Performing duties in the public or private sector related to food control, quality and safety in the processing, production and distribution of food products.

Learning Objectives

a) Carry out tasks in the production, processing and preservation of food and drink;
b) Collaborate in the design and implementation of quality management systems in the Agroindustry;
c) Implement food safety control and management systems;
d) Controlling quality and safety in food production, processing and preservation processes;
e) Carrying out physical-chemical, microbiological and sensory analyses of food and beverages;
f) Plan and monitor equipment maintenance at agro-industries;
g) Monitor audits to check good manufacturing hygiene practices;
h) Monitor audits of food safety control systems;
i) Participating in the design of new products and processes in the agro-industry;
j) Select environmentally appropriate and efficient methods, processes and equipment;
k) Implement logistics and distribution strategies for agribusiness products;
l) Taking measurements, monitoring and controlling processes in the agro-industry;
m) Carry out tasks related to the instrumentation and control of operations and processes;
n) Carry out some equipment repair and/or adaptation tasks;
o) Ensuring good manufacturing hygiene practices.

Access to Superior Studies

Holders of the Higher Professional Technical Course in Food Quality can apply for a higher degree. At the Escola Superior Agrária de Coimbra, graduates have direct access to apply for entry to degrees in Organic Agriculture, Agro-Livestock Engineering, Biotechnology, Forestry and Natural Resources, Food Technology, Environmental Technology and Management.
