Course Objectives

The overall aim of the degree in Medical Imaging and Radiotherapy is to qualify students to pursue independent, autonomous and differentiated of today’s professions of Diagnostic Radiographer, Radiation Therapist Radiographer and Nuclear Medicine Radiographer. This degree will provide the student knowledge, skills and aptitudes required for the roles, responsibilities and tasks, defined in the Portuguese legislation: Act “in accordance with the clinical indication, pre-diagnose, diagnostic and research process or identification, fitting them to conceive, plan, organize, implement and evaluate the process of work in the context of their profession, with aim of health promotion, prevention, diagnosis, treatment, rehabilitation and reintegration “(Decree-Law No. 564/99 of 21 December). This professional will have the possibility of movement in the European and world space, possessing 6 level training of the European qualifications framework.

Access Conditions

The national contest of access to public higher education, with admission exams in the following sets: 02 Biology and Geology or 02 Biology and Geology and 07 Physics and Chemistry or 02 Biology and Geology and 16 Mathematics. For the application is required the minimum rating of 95 points, in the admission test and application note, expressed on a scale of 0 to 200 points. The formula for calculating comprises 65% of the high school average and 35% of admission test. Regional preference corresponds to 20% of the vacancies, within the area of influence of Aveiro, Castelo Branco, Coimbra, Guarda, Leiria and Viseu.

Professional Outlets

The completion of the degree’s syllabus on Medical Imaging and Radiotherapy entitles the admission to the professions of Medical Imaging and Radiotherapy, nuclear medicine technician, radiology technician and radiotherapy technician regulated by Decree-Laws 261/93 of 24 July, and 564/1999, of december 21, under the Dispatch 9408/2014 of 21st july. The professional card shall be required to the Ministry of Health through the CAHS (Central Administration of the Health System).

Learning Objectives

The profile of generic skills to acquire has as reference, the defined in the Ordinance in 782/2009 of 23 July and in the working document European Qualifications Framework Level 6 Benchmarking Document: Radiographers, the European Federation of Radiographer Societies. The profile defined must respect the professional content contained in Portuguese legislation for the Diagnostic Radiographer, Radiation Therapist Radiographer and Nuclear Medicine Radiographer (Decree-Law No. 564/99). Knowledge refers to the theory and the development of a critical spirit of the theories and principles of its scientific area. The skills are allusive to the cognitive and practical knowledge, creating professionals able to solve complex and unpredictable problems in their scientific field of expertise. Skills refer to the responsibility and autonomy of Medical Imaging and Radiotherapy degree, thus being able to make decisions and to assume management responsibilities and professional development.

Access to Superior Studies

The graduate degree allows the application to postgraduate studies.
