Bachelor in Sustainable city management

Course Objectives

The one who completes a degree in Sustainable City Management will be ready to respond to the challenges associated to a growing urbanised world. The locus of his/her professional action will therefore be the built environment that constitute the urban areas, and its diverse components, with a special emphasis on their management, operation, and optimization, from a sustainable perspective.
The course is structured in 6 semesters. In the first 4, students should attend 6 pre-defined Curricular Units (CU) in each semester. In the last 2 semesters, students can choose, in each semester, 5 out of 8 options for the CUs. This will add to 1 more predefined CU. In the last semester, the predefined CU is their Final Projet which includes the public presentation of their report/thesis

Minimum grades – Application grade: 95 points; Entrance exams: 95 points
Calculation formula – Average of secondary level of studies: 65%; Entrance exams: 35%
Entrance exams – One of the following examinations: 09 Geography or 10 Descriptive Geometry or 16 Math

Professional Outlets

The professional action of those graduated with this course can be carried in: firms who do rehabilitation (buildings or infrastructures); companies who operate or manage urban systems and facilities (water supply, sewage, waste, transportation, schools, etc); maintenance contractors; consultants; insurance companies, local administration, to name a few. And they can also work on design offices, or investigation and research.

Learning Objectives

The graduated in Sustainable City Management will have a strong practical drive, grounded on solid theoretic background. His/her main focus will be on the operation, management, and improvement of urban systems and infrastructures, having in mind sustainability criteria. Among the learning objectives, one can mention:
– to acquire knowledge related to urban sustainability, as well to the existing risks in an urban environment
– to develop competencies associated with management, operation, and rehabilitation of urban systems and infrastructures
– to develop competences, associated to rehabilitation of the built environment (and the soil where it stands), including repair of structures and other constructive elements; improvement of comfort standards; reinforcement of foundations; introduction of new materials, etc
– to develop competences in project and operations management, communication, collaboration, and teamwork

Access to Superior Studies

Those with graduate in this course can apply to any Master course in which you need to have a bachelor degree, in particular those that cover topics related to urban systems and environments.
